SYNOPSIS: This is definitely not your regular scenario. From what I've gathered, the goal of the author was to piss off as many people as possible and get the immature audience laughing hysterically. If you are a seriously player looking for a scenario on a modern day Australian Civil War, I would not recomend this scenario. On the other hand, if you have that sick twisted sense of humor, you'll probably play the scenario for a few turns and get a kick out of it, and then quit. Once you've seen the obscenities there is nothing to keep you playing.

Playability Rating

4 / 10
COMMENTS: This is assuming that you enjoy the humor in the scenario. There's barely any new artwork, a few choice of units, no tech research, and no economics involved. The scenario didn't give me a feeling that drove me to keep playing. Other than the sick humor it is pretty boring. I'm tired of the standard civ2 graphics and about half of the units don't have their graphics changed. It used the standard city graphics which is boring.

Level of General Care

7 / 10
TEXT FILES: Definitely the strong point of the scenario. This scenario changed more text than any other I've seen, which must have taken a while and is commendable. It is also the focus of the scenario which gives it the sick humor (you can use your imagination). Everything from negotiation text to trade commodities is changed.

PLOT: The story line is more developed than most fictional scenarios. It actually goes beyond the standard intro text and into the readme to explain the situation in Australia. Basically what it is about is Pauline Hanson is a fascist who gains support in Australia and leads an uprising. At the same time there is a conflict between the whites and and aborigines which stirs up the main plot as both sides us it in some way or another as propaganda. Then you also have the UN trying to intervine, which I thought was a great idea.

CITIES: Some cities like Bourke have more support than production. The terrain squares have the monotonous farmland/railroad improvements. This is unattractive and doesn't seem like much thought was put into placing tile improvements.

Art and Originality

5 / 10
COMMENTS: Although the unit artwork is generally unchanged or overused, there are some new units like the Klansman and tank ripped off from CTP. A good job was done on city improvements. There are several new wonders and improvements, of course representing a part of Dracon's sick humor. There are new flags and the Kangaroo resource which I've never seen before.

The idea of having an offensive scenario is not new, but this is the only modern day Australian Civil War I've seen.

CONCLUDING REMARKS: You will like this scenario if you are a male adolescent with that twisted sense of humor who enjoys angering people. That was the true focus of this scenario. If you aren't interested in that, then you are not going to like it.

I realize that the score I give this scenario is around the same that the original version received. The reason for this is that people's standards and expectations for scenarios have grown much higher since then. I have not played the original version, but I'm sure the updated one is much better. If this version was reviewed around the same time as the original, I'd expect it to score somewhere in the low twenties.
