THE LORD OF THE RINGS v 1.0 by Ian Thompson

I'm not going to bore you with a long readme so heres everything you need to know :

There are 7 civs in the game : Gondor,Elves,Rohan,Dwarves,Easterners,Mordor and Harad along with
the Isengarders (barbarian), to win as one of the good powers (gondor, elves, dwarves, rohan) you
and the other good powers must capture and hold onto the cities Dol Guldur and Barad-dur,
to win as the evil powers you and the other evil powers must capture and hold onto the cities
Lothlorien, Minas Tirith, Erebor and Edoras.

BUT

Theres more....

The good guys, even though there are 4 of them, are not as powerful as the bad, so as in the
book they have the opportunity to swing the war in their favour by destroying the one ring.

THE RING

The ring is held by Frodo the hobbit (the ring bearer/frodo unit). This unit is created whenever
a civ builds the Frodo's Journey wonder of the world, the civ that builds it will gain control
of the ring bearer unit and the gandalf unit, SO IT IS ESSENTIAL YOU BUILD IT FIRST if you are
one of the good powers, it only cost 10 shields and if it is not built by the 3rd turn it will
automatically be given to Gondor so BUY IT ON THE 1ST TURN. Even if you are playing Gondor you
should still buy it as if it is given automatically to Gondor the game will presume that you
are playing one of the evil powers and to make the whole thing run correct will create a
stationary Frodo unit which will appear in either Hobbiton or one of the nearby towns.

So now you have the ring bearer unit what do you do with it ? You must take it to the mountain
in the middle of Mordor territory at co ordinate 71,101 and bribe the fireball unit that is there.
The Ring-bearer unit is invisible to make this task easier. This will have the effect of
completely collapsing the Mordor tech tree and rendering them incapable of building any more
military units, after a while anyway. It will also give you control of and the ability to build
eagle units with which you will be able to destroy Mordor's powerful Nazgul units.

If however Mordor manages to kill the ring bearer unit, all hell will break loose, they will
obtain the ability to build the extremely powerful balrog and dragon units, making the scenrio
impossible to win (unless you're Mordor of course).

You can if you want just hide the ring when playing as the good powers and try to win the war
by more conventional means, though this is much harder.

THE CIVS

GONDOR (white) MONARCHY : Representing the largest kingdom of men in middle earth, the Gondor
civ is the main good power, they are however right meside Mordor and so are very much in the
line of fire. Their units are strong but expensive and though at the start of the game it may
not be too difficult to hold Mordor off, when the Nazgul show up things will get much more
difficult. They are probablt the most interesting civ to play.

ELVES (green) FUNDAMENTALIST : The Elves are a dwindling race in middle earth and this is
reflected in their small number of cities, their units are however quite strong and they
all have alpine status.

DWARVES (dark blue) MONARCHY: The Dwarves are even worse off than the elves, they only have
4 cities and can't really get involved in the game in much of a big way. The Dwarves are
master craftsmen and so most of the units they can build are in-animate objects.

ROHAN (yellow) MONARCHY: The ally of Gondor, though they start the game at peace with Mordor
this will change a few turns into the game (see below). They have the best cavalry in the
world and their first goal should probably be to take out the Isengarders.

EASTERNERS (light blue) MONARCHY : The men of the east have decided to ally themselves with
Mordor, not a very good civ to play as they are quite far from where the main fighting
will take place.

HARAD (orange) MONARCHY: The men of the south have also decided to ally with Mordor,
though closer to the main fighting than the easterners they're still not really recommended
 for play.

MORDOR (grey) FUNDAMENTALIST: The most powerful civ in the game, they represent the forces of
evil although the units they build are not the most powerful in the scenario they are very
cheap meaning that they will churn out thousands of them. They also have possession of nine
hero units , the ringwraiths and the nazguls, if you want a very easy (but long) time of it,
pick this civ.

ISENGARDERS (red) BARBARIAN: Representing the forces of the treacherous wizard Saruman, the
Isengarders will be a constant threat to Rohan, they have also got the support of the evil
men of Dunaland.

THE RING WAR ADVANCE

Whenever either the Elves, Rohan, Gondor or Mordor discovers this advance it will trigger an
important event:

Elves: When the elves discover it, it will cause the ents of Fangorn forest to rise up and join
Rohan, this will make it much easier for Rohan to beat the Isengarders as the ents ignore
city walls.

Rohan: When Rohan discovers it, it will cause the dead men of Dunharrow to rise up and help
Gondor fight Sauron.

Gondor: When it is discovered by Gondor it will cause Rohan to declare war on Mordor and to
donate some rohirrim units to Gondor.

Mordor: Will probably discover it first, it will cause the nine ringwraiths, mordor's most powerful
units to appear.

HERO UNITS

There are several one of a kind hero units in the game they are :

Elven Havens Grey Havens Lighthouse None

There is a describe file so info on all the wonders and units is available within the game.

UNITS

Ok, so theres no new units here, but the animated fantasy units seemed to fit the scenario
so well I thought it would be better to use them rather than more original static units.
Not all the units are animated however, these are the exceptions :
Gimli (Dwarf)
Legolas (Archer)
Wainriders (Chariot)

MULTIPLE MAPS

3 of the 4 maps are involved in the scenario, the sky map is empty but can be used by both the
Nazgul and Eagle units. The underground map is used to represent the tunnels underneath the
mountains, and can only be entered by Orcs, Ring bearer and Dwarves, it will not come into the game much
either. The undersea one doesen't come into it at all and the surface map is the one that most
of the game will take place on.

SWAMP

Swamp terrain is impassable.

500 TURNS

Though the scenario is set to 500 turns it will of course never go on this long :) It can be
finished by meeting the victory conditions mentioned at the top and should not even reach 50
turns.

A FINAL NOTE

Ok, that was quite long actually wasn't it ? Anyway this is only my 2nd scenario and the 1st
ever events file I've done so if it isn't great forgive me. Any comments to iant43@hotmail.com
