			THE NAPOLEONIC EAGLES
			by Markus Eklund
				Version 1.05

"The Napoleonic Eagles" is a scenario about Napoleon
(obviosly). It starts in 1805 and ends in 1814, so you
don't get to fight at Waterloo. You play as Napoleon
himself and your goal is to create a strong, unified
europe under french leadership. But you will not. In
the end, you army will be destroyed, Paris will fall,
France will be in ruins and people demands that you
abdicate. You know that you deserve it.

INSTALLATION

This scenario requires the Fantastic Worlds version of
Civilization 2.

Create a new directory called "eagles" under the Civ2
scenario folder. Put all files except the sound files
in there. Put the sound files in a new folder called
"sound" within this directory.

Before you start the scenario, be sure to run
"eagles.bat" and load the events and rules for Part 1.

WINNING THE GAME:
There are two ways to win:

2. Conquer St. Petersburg. This can only be done in
part IV. You need to capture Moscow first.

3. Hold enough objectives at the end of scenario. But
you might as well have lost Paris then.

ABOUT EVENTS
This scenario uses the infamous technique known as
multiple events files. The game has been split into
four parts with one events file for each. The parts
are:

1805-1807 EAGLES OF THE EMPIRE
1807-1809 SPANISH ULCER
1809-1812 THE GRANDE EMPIRE
1812-1814 VIVE L'EMPEREUR!

Switching parts are handled by BAT-files. The game
will tell you when. When you do that, you MUST save
the game as "eagles.sav" or the events will not work.

CAMPAIGNS:

PART I: EAGLES OF THE EMPIRE 1805-1807
NEGOTIATIONS ALLOWED WITH: Austrians and Turks

* The first thing you must to is to capture Vienna,
capital of the austrians. This will remove the
fortress in the barbarian german cities so that you
can conquer them.

* After capturing Vienna, be sure to destroy the
russian army in Austria (the battle of Austerlitz).
You cannot conquer much more of Austria in this part
so you should propabaly sign a peace treaty after
this.

* Conquer the barbarian german cities and the kingdom
of Naples (british in this game).

* Sooner or later you will be at war with Prussia.
Conquering Prussia will be very easy of you defeat
them at Jena in Saxony. This will make the Brandenburg
Gate (great wall renamed) obsolute.

PART II: SPANISH ULCER 1807-1809
NEGOTIATIONS ALLOWED WITH: Russians, Prussians and
Turks

* Before 1808, you can try to conquer Portugal by
moving troops through your ally Spain.

* The peninsular war (between France and Spain) will
start in 1808. Do on attempt to conquer Southern Spain
in this part.

* Austria will attack you again in 1809. Be sure to
have troops in Germany, Italy and Poland then or it is
going to hurt.

PART III: THE GRAND EMPIRE 1809-1812
NEGOTIATIONS ALLOWED WITH: Russians, Prussians, Turks
and Austrians.

* Try to fillfull the conquest of Spain. Maybe not too
easy since partisans will attack you everywhere.

* If you want to conquer invade in the next part, you
are goint to need plenty of units. Move them to East
Prussia.

PART IV: VIVE L'EMPEREUR! 1812-1814
NEGOTIATIONS ALLOWED WITH: None

* Invade Russia, if you want to. You can win the game
by capturing St. Petersburg. You must conquer Moscow
first, since this will remove the fortresses in front
of St. Petersburg.

* If you haven't won the game by 1813, you are going
to be attacked everywhere by everyone with an awful
lot of units.

* The battle of Leipzig. A group of fortresses, homed
to Leipzig, will appear along the Rhine. They will
disappear if you lose Leipzig, so defend it att all
cost or France will be lost.

UNITS YOU CAN BUILD:

Regulars - Cheap units used mainly for defense.

Line Infantry - Quite cheap offensive infantry.

Grenadiers - The best offensive infantry units.

Field Artillery - Fast artillery, effective against
everything. Worthless at defense.

Siege Artillery - Expensive, slow piece of crap. Only
usefull against cities.

Cavalry - Fast, Strong and good at everything. Propa-
baly the most usefull unit.

Husar - A cavalry with better defense and weaker
attack.

Transport - Sea unit for transportation.

Frigate - Fast warship.

Man of War - Very strong warship.

Merchant - A trader! Why trade when you can fight?

AND THE ONES YOU CAN'T:

Imperial Guard - Napoleon's personal guard, a very
strong unit. It is resurrected if it is kill (except
in the last part)

Veteran Cavalry - A superior version of the cavalry.
You get to start with a few of them.

Marshall - Strong general unit created in Paris at
random turns.

Fortress - Immobile unit that are very tough to
kill. Most english, turk, austrian, swedish and
silesian cities have a fortress in them.

Forification - Immobile city defense. There are four
types:
A - The usual one.
B - Acts like a fortress before part 2. They exists
in Salzburg, Krakow, Lublin, Lwow and Rome.
C - Acts like fortress before part 3. Exists in
Sevilla, Gibraltar, Cadiz, Cartagena, Valencia,
Bremen and Hamburg.
D - In most russian cities. Can not be killed before
part 4.

Poles - The poles was Napoleon most loyal allies.
You will get this unit at random turns if you hold
Warsaw.

NOTES:
* Two wonders are available for building: The Conti-
nental System (United Nations) and Arc de Triomphe
(Colossus).

* Your economy is really weak. This is to motivate
conquests and prevent you from fast-bulding a million
new units.

* Thanks to Rob Roy for playtesting and suggestions.
