^^-OPERATION ALLIED FORCE-
^
^PREMISE: On 24 March, 1999, NATO forces began air operations over the Federal Republic of
Yugoslavia as part of Operation Allied Force. Early in the war, President Clinton
announced that the U.S. would accomplish its goals in Kosovo through airpower alone.
^
^PLAY: This scenario is designed to be played as the Supreme Allied Commander of the NATO
forces. As such, your arsenal is vast, but one-dimensional. In accordance with the
President's directive, you will not have any ground forces with which to effect your
mission objectives:
^ 1) Directly protect the Kosovars
^ 2) Establish and maintain air superiority
^ 3) Deter and destroy the Serbs ability to wage war
^
^DURATION: Short - NATO achieved its objectives in 78 days. You will have 78 turns.
^
^OTHER NOTES: In the actual conflict, Allied aircraft were required to remain above the cloud
deck in order to minimize the risk to pilots. Although no pilots lost their lives
during Allied Force, it was at the cost of greatly reduced effectiveness and a
significant number of aborted missions. In this scenario, you will not be so restricted,
i.e. you will always be able to deliver your weapons to the target you have chosen.
However, this also means that your aircraft and missiles will be significantly more
susceptible to SAMs. And not all SAMs are easy to detect...
