^
It is 280 BC, a year of conflict.
^
In the west, Rome's attempt to unify Italy has been checked by the mighty King
Pyrrhus of Epirus. Ambitious perhaps beyond his means, Pyrrhus has made it his
goal to revive the western Greeks and build a fresh empire from the territories of
Rome and Carthage.
^
In the east, three powerful Greek kingdoms have emerged from the remnants of
Alexander's empire - the Seleucids in Asia, the Ptolemies in Egypt, and the
Macedonians in Greece. Locked in endless combat, they are completely oblivious
to the pressure building up to the north. For deep in central Europe, the warlike
Celts are about to go on the rampage...
^
GOAL - Unite the Oecumene (the Classical World and its associated civilizations)
^
PLAY - All the civilizations are roughly equal. The Greek empires have the
best access to the Wonders of the World, the Celts and Carthaginians have the
most room to expand into, and the Romans naturally have the best troops.
