Results of Survey on Contest #2 - Theme Chosen!

After reviewing the results of the vote, we have settled on a theme for the contest. More people selected it as their favorite than any other topic, and it was overall the most liked scenario. The option that was chosen was a far cry from what we expected; we were sure a strictly historical theme would be selected. But apparently people this time are leaning towards a more fantastical theme, because the choice was "Earth 3000":

THE WINNING IDEA: Earth in the Year 3000

What will life be like a thousand years from now? This is your opportunity to look ahead and imagine what life will be like in the year 3000. What technological changes will have come? Governments? Will we have contact with alien life? Will mankind even be recognizable? This could be a "World War IV" scenario fought with sticks and stones or it could be a hopeful future where the military isn't needed anymore. For some ideas you may want to check the "Earth 3000" threads in the off-topic forum of the Apolyton Civ2 Site.

The contest will challenge designers to present a believable and fun future Earth a thousand years from now. We are currently developing the web site that will contain rules, deadlines, and any supplementary material that designers will find helpful. We expect to include at least an Earth map for people to use and some pointers on where to go for units. We expect the scenario to be more open-ended than the previous scenario, allowing for much more diverse scenarios than the previous contest. Although this may make judging difficult, it makes designing more fun and we hope we will get more entries than we did for the previous contest (although six wasn't bad, given the short notice people had!).

We are currently leaning towards starting in mid-April and running until some time during the summer. The idea is to have plenty of time for people to write that killer scenario they have been dreaming about, but not to have so much time that people lose interest.

Scenarios should be created using Civilization II, preferably with the Fantastic Worlds build. However, we will also accept MGE scenarios. Blackclove will be the judge and Reismark and the Hodadian Awards Center will develop the web page announcing the contest. As before, we will also have a "Peoples' Choice" vote so that the general Civ2 community can pick their favorites from among the entries.

All entries will be posted on the SLeague site, and the winning entries will get exposure on various other popular Civilization II web sites around the 'net. In addition, the winner has the option of judging the next scenario design competition if he or she chooses.
