Narrowly escaping the deadly cliffs of Cape Zephyrion, the Laconians find themselves
stranded on strange lands. As they disembark, one of them shouts: "Hey, there is a road!"
All others quickly jump off the deck in hope to find someone, a merchant, a peasant, whatever,
who can tell them where they are and how they can get home.
Their leader, a man named Philotios, is the only one who is fully armed. All others must rely on him
that he can guide them through possible dangers...
As they advance on the road, a peasant comes by. He tells the Laconians that there is a lost priest
somewhere here, who might be able to help them. With great enthusiasm, the lost Laconians start
to seek him...

The Laconians finally find the priest, whom they ask where they are, and how they can get home.
"You are dangerously close to the demons of the underworld, and your only way to get out of
here is by fighting. It will not be worth fleeing like cowards!"
Scared and discouraged by this answer, Philotios asks: "But where are we? What must we do?"
But the priest is gone.

Arriving in the large city of Rhodes, the Laconians rest. Meanwhile, Philotios meets the ruler of the
city.
"We are suffering from the continuing invasions of Hades' demons. These creatures are destroying
our farmlands and killing our peasants. Nobody has arrived here for a long time!"
Philotios nods. He has already heard of these beasts. The king continues.
"If we do not stop these invasions, we are doomed!"
"But where do they come from?" Philotios inquires.
"In the north, there is a large city called Troy. It must have made a pact with Hades, because it is
spared by these raids. It even seems that these creatures come from there!"
"Would you advise me to go there?"
With a horrified face, the king stares at Philotios,
"Of course not! I would not even send the inhabitants of Smyrna there! And these are my fiercest
enemies. They keep preventing my boats to go out fishing and thus eliminate any chance of my
population to get food!"
"Maybe then I should talk to the king of Smyrna. Maybe he will let you evacuate your people to
his lands until the demons leave."
The old king stands up, his face is delighted.
"You would do that? That's great! Smyrna lies far north of here, on the Ionian coast. You
will need a ship..."
"Don't worry, we have one!"

Landing at the shores of Ionia, the Laconians hope to get easy access into the city. But its gates
are closed, the towers armed with archers. The gate opens and a richly dressed man steps out.
"Who are you, and what do you want on this island?"
"I am Philotios and this is my crew, a part of the Laconian army!"
"I have never heard of you. Get out of here!"
"But we come in the name of the king of Rhodes!"
With a surprised expression, the man invites them in but his voice does not get friendlier.
"What does he want?" he asks after a long while.
"His lands are being raided by demons of the underworld. He asks you to receive his people until
the raids are over."
"What kind of demons?"
"Walking dead. Skeletons that have arose from their graves, heavily armed. They destroy
everything they see and kill everyone who crosses their path!"
"I shall speak to the king. But you, get out! I cannot host warriors like you."
"But where can we go?"
"I have a small request. There is an island, its name is Samos. It used to be my most important
trade partner. But for a while now, the population has fled. They are speaking of something like
horrible creatures, one-eyed giants, called Cyclops. Nonsense. But I would like you to go
there and see what's wrong. But not with your exausted army. There is a friendly city on
Lesbos called Mytilene. They may give your reinforcements. Good Luck."

Kindly, the king of Mytilene welcomes the Laconians. As Philotios tells him that they were sent by
the king of Rhodes, he answers:
"I suppose that he sent you in the Samos matter?" Philotios explains the situation to the king.
"Yes, I can give you men. And ships. Yours is half a wreck and it must first be repaired. But it will
not be enough for the number of men you will need.
Samos lies northeast of Mcale. That is a small penninsula in Ionia. You should not return here
after you have visited Samos, because the sea is very dangerous. You can travel directly from
Samos to Laconia, although I have heard that even this travel may be dangerous. Be careful."
"But what shall we do with your men?"
"Let them decide." The old man smiles and leads Philotios to a palace window. Outside, the large
harbor of Mytilene can be seen. "These ships are your ships. I ask you again to not return. I'd be
happier to know that all my ships are safe in a far-off land than only few of my ships here in the
harbor."

As he notices that the Cyclopae are dead for sure, Philotios cries out triumphantly and his soldiers
do the same.
All of the sudden, an old man comes out of a nearby cave. His face is delighted, but his eyes
show sadness.
"Congratulations, Philotios of Amyclae!"
"How do you know my name?" Philotios is obviously surprised. "I have never seen you before!"
"This world is full of miracles, my friend. But it is not relevant to explain this right now. I suppose
that you have been sent by the king of Rhodes?"
"Yes. But I came from Mytilene."
"I guess so" the old man replies. "He is one of the few who can still provide good ships. But now,
let's get to more important things. All inhabitants have fled to Gaurion. Only I and a few
priests have remained here. But we cannot rebuild the island here. You must return the refugees
here."
"No! I want to go home!" The shout of a soldier is strenghtened by others.
"Don't worry," Philotios calms them, "Gaurion is on our route. We will only stop by to tell the people
that they can return, get some provisions and return home."
"I wouldn't be so sure." The old man gackles. Not caring for this warning, the men board their
ships.

The Laconians land in the harbor of Gaurion. With joy the people greet them.
"Are you the refugees from Samos?" Philotios asks. A young man steps out of the crowd. "Yes.
Were you there?"
"Yes." Philotios replies, "We have killed the Cyclopae. It is safe to return."
"That is great", the young man replies, but his words dissapear in the joyful upset of the crowd.
"But I am afraid that there still is a thing to be managed." "What is it?" Philotios asks.
"There is an island, north of Euboea. I think it was Scyros. I have heard that horrible beasts live there.
One day, a ship arrived on Samos. It was the same day the Cyclopae appeared. Something stepped out of the ship.
It was night and we couldn't see exactly what it was. But it stole our treasure and several women from our town."
"Why haven't you tried to bring them back?"
"We were not able to. We had to flee to Gaurion, and the ship went into the other direction. I don't
know where the ship sailed, nor exactly why it was there. But I suppose that it was one of the
Centaurs who are supposed to live somewhere."
"Do we have to hurry? My men would like to go to Amyclae and fetch some reinforcements, and
we`ll also need our leader, Heracles, to go on."
"Not a hero is needed, my friend, only a god could possibly kill these beasts!"

In hope to get some ideas of what to do next, Heracles and Philotios land at the harbor of Naxos. The

"Are you gods?" a small girl walks towards the two men. "No." Heracles shakes his head. "But we
would like to see one." "I can help you." The girl leads them to a large house. After a brief
greeting and an explanation of the situation, the owner says:
"Yes, I can help you. There is a beast. It lives on the other shore, on the island of Paros, right on
the opposite of Naxos. It is a horrible Scylla, a beast with many heads looking like snakes. It is
the reason why our island is becoming so poor. Can you kill this beast?"
"I'm not sure," Heracles replies. "It must be a very large creature." "Yes, it is known to attack ships
without a good reason. It eats its crew and the ships often drown in the nearby waters."
"How can we kill it?"
"I don't know. But Ares, the god of war, promised that, whoever will kill this beast is worthy of
his support, and he will place himself in this mans service. Good Luck."

The Scylla is dead! The population of Naxos runs into the streets celebrating for five consecutive
days.
Meanwhile, on the Olympos:
Zeus, father and king of all deities, enters the huge throne room, followed by all godesses and
gods. Like a thunder, Zeus' voice roars accross the room.
"Ares! Come here!"
With deep respect Ares slithers accross the floor.
"Ares, didn't you promise that, whoever can kill the Scylla will be your master?"
"Yes." Ares lowers his head and looks on the ground. A muttering and murmuring goes through
the divine crowd. Isn't it an inexcusable thing that a god would place himself into the services of a
mortal?
"Well then," Zeus speaks after a while, "Someone has done so. Heracles of Amyclae." Delight fills the
face of Athene. Her favorite mortal has managed to subdue a god. Slowly she steps out of the
crowd.
"Oh father and king, let me take the place of Ares!" Relief fills the face of the deity of war. With
an expression of anger, Zeus looks first at Athene, then at Ares and again at Athene.
"I believe it is up to Ares to judge this!"
"Oh father, it was my promise, and I should go down there, " Ares hastily replies, "But I think it is
a noble deed of Athene to relieve me in this case. And I think we should let her." A smile comes
on Zeus' lips, and he grants Athene her request. "But you are not relieved, Ares!"

As the Centaur falls down, he reveals a huge cave door. Many women run out, towards the

out of here!"
"Wait!" Philotios stops Heracles. "What about the treasures?"
"You're right!" He turns around and shouts out "Come on, we forgot the treasures!"
In hurry, the Laconians run into the Centaur's cave, and carry out the most beautiful things that
they have ever seen.
But the shine of the gold in the light of the setting sun attracts the monsters that have
been peacefully sitting on top of the cave, not noticing the struggle between the humans and their
friend. Outraged, one of them grabs a stone and throws it down the mountain, hitting several men.
"Let's get out of here quickly!" Heracles shouts. All warriors hastily board their ships. One of them
sinks, being hit by a huge rock thrown by one of the Centaurs. In hope of not getting hit, and not
listening to the shouts of their drowning friends, the remaining Laconians make their way out. They
come to one of the nearby island from where they send several ships to Samos, returning the
women and treasures. A part of the treasures is returned to the Laconians as a thanks for their
